DESCRIPTION: Time lock - Sargent & Greenleaf, Model 2 (Type 6) time lock, two mvts, heavy brass case with locking front lid (locking key is included with this lot as pictured), signed display glass, two black enamel 46-hour dials, KW (a key is included with this lot as pictured), gilt mvts with a shared main plate, s#777 within case. A piece with tremendous eye-appeal for the time lock collector, this particular example has the distinction of being the front cover piece of John Erroll's "American Genius: Nineteenth-Century Bank Locks and Time Locks." From the collection of John Erroll, co-author of American Genius: Nineteenth-Century Bank Locks and Time Locks. A copy of the book will be included with this lot. CONDITION: Mvts: NR, both balances gummy and not moving freely, overhaul needed, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, some mild light haze spots to plate surface; nearly flawless dials, right side dial with short perimeter scratch between 12 and 14; case shows light to medium wear, scattered exterior scratches, areas of finish loss, good display glass, good locking function.

DESCRIPTION: Time lock - Sargent & Greenleaf, Model 2 (Type 2) time lock, two mvts, heavy brass case with locking front lid (locking key is included with this lot as pictured) that is without display glass, two black enamel 46-hour dials, KW (a key is included with this lot as pictured), gilt mvts with a shared main plate, s#159 to exterior of case. A notably early example that is pictured on page 150 of John Erroll's book and is noted as being at that time "the earliest known complete Sargent & Greenleaf Model 2, the Type 2 was made in late 1874 with a solid bronze door for use in a coin vault where a glass insert would likely get broken." CONDITION: Mvts: Right side mvt is running, left side mvt is NR with a likely broken mainspring that slips when winding, balance will tick with pressure held to train, overhaul needed for left side mvt, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, some scattered mild small dark spots; flawless dials; dial pointers with only small bits of red paint remaining; case shows light wear, exterior with some typical scratches, dings, and some areas of finish loss, lid with good locking function.

Howard & Co mvts, heavy nickel-plated brass case with locking front lid (locking key is included with this lot as pictured), signed display glass with two winding apertures, two small enamel registers numbered to 60 at left and right perimeter, nickel damascene mvts with gilt balance cocks, pallet bridges, and escapement cocks, s#1015. CONDITION: Mvts: Both running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered small nicks and fine scratches; each enamel register with a single hl crossing its length; case shows little wear, a notch filed to lower-right perimeter of front lid, some scattered mild scratches and nicks, small sliver of finish loss to upper edge of front lid, good display glass, good locking function.

Time lock - Consolidated Time Lock Co., Harry Dalton Automatic Time Lock with three Elgin Watch Co mvts, massive nickel-plated brass case with locking front lid (locking key is not present and lid is currently locked closed), unmarked display glass with three winding apertures, case mounted on aluminum base as pictured, white enamel 76-hour dials, KW (key not included with this lot), nickel damascene mvts, dials s#8809, 8810 and 8811, case s#87. A very rare item, regarding the Consolidated Harry Dalton model the John Erroll book notes that "Today, three examples of the Dalton Consolidated with the internal bolt motor time lock are known to remain." This is also a behemoth of a piece that with stand measures approximately 12.5 inches height x 16 inches width x 5.5 inches depth. For a time lock collector that is looking for an eye-catching piece of massive proportions - look no further! CONDITION: Mvts: All began running upon winding but two of the three were very nearly fully wound but not running when winding was initiated so overhaul is recommended though case front is currently locked so this issue will also need to be addressed by its next owner, visible portion of mvts in excellent cosmetic condition overall, few fine scratches; dials with scattered hls, center dial with a sizable patched edge chip at 28 hours, other dials with few mild small edge chips or flakes; case front is currently locked closed and key is missing so we have not been able to open, case shows light wear, some scattered spots of finish loss, good display glass.

CONDITION: Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall; flawless dial; case shows light wear, some scratches to front lid, some dings and finish loss to front at upper-left adjacent display glass, some lesser bits of finish loss elsewhere, good display glasses, front lid currently unlocked and key is missing so lock function is unknown. Joseph L. Hall lock in excellent cosmetic condition, showing light wear, short scratch to signature plate to area left of Mr. Hall's neck, locking function untested.

Lot#: 213

DESCRIPTION: Time lock - Actual patent model of S.M. Lillie's time lock, nickel-plated base metal case measures approximately 6.5 inch diameter, granted U.S. patent 206887 on August 13, 1878, with U.S. patent tag attached. A very appealing, and presumably unique, item for the time lock collector. Although a patent was granted, this design was not to be a commercial success as John Erroll notes that only one example of Lewis Lillie's Model 2 time lock based on the Lillie patent designs is believed to have been made. DESCRIPTION: Time lock - Chicago Time Lock Co., "Perfection" time lock with two Swiss made mvts, nickel-plated brass case with hinged front lid marked "Perfection Time Lock Patent July 7th 1885," unmarked display glasses over mvt balances, two white enamel 46-hour dials, KW (key not included with this lot), gilt mvts, one dial marked with s#157. An extremely rare piece that represents the second model by Chicago Time Lock Co, of this model John Erroll writes: "Of the approximately fifty of this second style of Perfection thought to have been made, the only complete example is shown here. Five other partial examples are known." The present lot is indeed the same then-known single complete example that Erroll commented on, and is pictured on page 227 of the book. DESCRIPTION: Time lock - Yale and Towne, Type E time lock with three Waltham Watch Co mvts, heavy nickel-plated brass case with rotating front bezel, unmarked display glass with winding arbor at center which winds all three mvts, interior of case with 72-hour scale, KW (key not included with this lot), gilt damascene mvts, mvts s#4323291, 4323247, and 4527260, case s#120 to its inner surface. A rare piece with great eye appeal that makes a desirable addition for either the time lock collector or the Waltham collector. Regarding the Type E time lock, John Erroll writes "Today, there are known to be fewer than five of the Type D and fewer than ten of the Type E." CONDITION: Mvts: All running, lower-right in nearly mint cosmetic condition overall with bright lustrous gilt damascene tone, upper in excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall with good gilt damascene tone, lower-left in fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall with some haze to gilt tone; case shows little wear, scattered scratches and dings around sides and to bezel, some areas of finish loss around sides, good display glass.

DESCRIPTION: Sargent and Greenleaf safe plaque, brass and nickel-plated brass, reads "This space fitted for Sargent and Greenleaf No. 2 Time Lock," measures approximately 7.75 inches x 6.5 inches. A terrific associated piece for the collector that owns a Sargent and Greenleaf Model 2. From the collection of John Erroll, co-author of American Genius: Nineteenth-Century Bank Locks and Time Locks. A copy of the book will be included with this lot.
CONDITION: Plaque show light wear, scrape across portion of "TI" in "TIME" marking, some scattered mild scratches and dings elsewhere, some finish loss at edges.
