APW - Seth Thomas, Grade 280, 21J, Model 5, 18S, gold-filled OF original case with superb floral engraving detail, Montgomery white enamel DS impressed dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, two-tone gilt and nickel damascene, s#237445. A beautiful example of this attractive 21 jewel grade, per the excellent info at Eric Unselt's www.seththomasresearch.com website this movement has been given a research identification as Grade 280 and is believed to have a total production of approximately 1100 made.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, very strong two-tone color, some toning to nickel portion of plates, scattered minuscule specks of oxide to regulator assembly; dial has cluster of hls ementating from 9, edge chip under bezel at 9; excellent hands; case shows light wear, no dents or dings, excellent engraving and engine turning detail, thin partial rings of wear to brass to front and rear edges and among engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal.
