Gross weight of assembled watch 66.0 dwt (102.6 g). Includes extract from the Patek Philippe archives noting attributes and a 1900 sales date.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good repeat function and tone, good chronograph function, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, scattered fine scratches on plates; virtually flawless dial with only a negligible very small micro-fine glaze scratch near center; excellent hands overall, minute with small soldered repair, upper sweep-seconds-hand with small upward bend that occasionally rubs on crystal stalling the chronograph motion; case shows light wear, small nick to band near 3, no dents or dings, engraving detail shows mild reduction, small bit of play to rear hinge, some unevenness to execution of satin finish within cuvette; tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.

DESCRIPTION: EPW - Charles Clay, London, gold repoussé verge fusee quarter-hour repeater, 51mm, 18-22K gold original pair cases pierced for sound transmission, outer with classical repoussé scene to rear depicting five adult figures standing in front of a tree along with a small dog at left and a winged putto at right, outer with casemaker's incuse "I L" marking, inner with engraving elements among its foliate scrolled piercing including birds of prey, wolf heads and a grotesque mask, inner with casemaker's incuse "I B" marking, gold dial with stippling and engine turning, KWKS, verge escapement, faceted red endstone, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled balance cock with grotesque mask at its neck, signed gilt locking dust-cap, s#933. Comes with an associated fitted box as pictured of more recent vintage. Gross weight of assembled watch 91.9 dwt (143.0 g). A magnificent early 18th century gold repoussé repeater, Charles Clay petitioned Parliament in 1716 for a patent on his repeating watch but despite his best efforts the patent was ultimately not granted due to the opposition of Daniel Quare and the Clockmakers' Company.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good repeat function and superb crisp tone, empty position for a slide below 5 position of dial was likely for a dumb repeat function but slide is not present, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, excellent gilt tone, scattered scratches and fine scratches; virtually flawless dial; excellent hands; outer case shows shows very light wear, repoussé detail with small surface split to one leg of highest relief figure at right side, excellent engraving detail overall with some reduction at high points, button latch good; inner case shows little wear, some fine scratches and dings to rear, excellent engraving detail, small metal split to reverse of brass sleeve around base of depressing gold pendant; tight bow; good domed glass crystal.

DESCRIPTION: EPW - John Arnold, London, gold fusee pocket chronometer with spring detent escapement and helical hairspring, 52mm, 18K gold OF consular case bearing London hallmarks for 1825 appears purpose made for this watch, incuse casemaker's "I M" mark, white enamel dial, KWKS, Arnold spring detent escapement with exposed detent in channel of plate, OZ balance with helical steel hairspring, diamond endstone, gilt mvt with pierced and engraved balance cock, s#66/367. Gross weight of assembled watch 88.5 dwt (137.7 g). An attractive example of John Arnold's "of the second kind" pocket chronometer movement, this piece has the typical fractional serial number sequence of this series with numerator and denominator having a 301 digit differential and this example features the OZ balance which was introduced by Arnold between 1781 or 1782 and remained in use until 1791 when Arnold introduced his Z style balance. Stauffer, Swiss, minute repeater with split-seconds chronograph and 30-minute register, 47mm, 18K gold OF original case with initials to rear, repeat slide at left, split-seconds button at 11, slide allowing or preventing chronograph activation at 12:30, gold cuvette engraved "1892 New Haven Conn. 1917 Presented to John Keeler Punderford, V.P. & G.M. of The Connecticut Co., G.M. of the N.Y. and Stamford Ry. Co. and the Westchester St. R.R. Co. July 2, 1917, by members of the operating Departments upon his completing Twenty Five Years in the Electric Street Railway Service," white enamel triple-sunk dial, SW-SS, lever escapement with capped escape wheel, 35J, fausses-côtes pattern nickel damascene, s#57756 within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 48.9 dwt (76.0 g). John K. Punderford spent his entire working career in association with electric railways, having his beginnings in 1892 with the Winchester Avenue Railroad Co. of New Haven assisting in electrifying the system to replace horse-drawn cars. Over the following years Punderford advanced rapidly in his positions with a number of electric railway companies, and in 1923 was vice president of the American Electric Railway Association and in 1924 was president of the Transportation and Traffic Association.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good repeat function and tone other than a sluggishness of operation, good chronograph and register function, split-seconds is functioning but reset of hand is very sluggish and occasionally falls a bit short of full reset, overhaul recommended to address sluggishness of repeat function and sluggishness of split-seconds reset function, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, one mismatched blue colored screw, mild oxide to steelwork, few fine scratches to plates; dial has two light hls above seconds-register, one light hl below indicator-register; fine-plus hands; case shows very little wear, few fine scratches to rear, ding to band at 2:30, some smaller additional nicks to band between 2 and 3, excellent engraving detail; bow has been fused stiff with gold solder applied at pendant junction, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.

Gross weight of assembled watch 80.8 dwt (125.8 g). A good example of Graham's cylinder escapement with attractive original case. George Graham was born in 1674, apprecticed to Henry Aske in 1688, was admitted a Freeman of the Clockmakers' Company in 1695 and immediately became a journeyman for the renowned Thomas Tompion, and ultimately became partners with Tompion and continued the business following Tompion's death in 1713 until Graham's own passing in 1751. Of approximately 1780 vintage, it is very unusual for a well-worn watch of this era to have such hidden enamel erotic scene such as this remaining in superb unrestored condition.

An unusual small sized verge fusee by the son of the illustrious chronometer maker Thomas Earnshaw Sr.; following the passing of his father in 1829, Thomas Earnshaw Jr. continued the family business and produced watches in a wide range of styles with various escapement types. An attractive and nicely finished center-seconds fusee, it is unclear whether the signature of this watch is indeed for the John Arnold of chronometry fame or if it is for another individual with same first initial and surname. If this piece was by the renowned John Arnold of chronometry fame, it would presumably date to the early portion of his career prior to his devotion to precision timekeeping.
