contemporary journals as "watchmakers," active from at the latest March
of 1781 to 1789), early American market fusee made in London, 50mm,
sterling silver OF original pair cases bearing London hallmarks for
1783, casemaker's incuse conjoined mark "IB" probably for John
Bullocke, 40 Ironmonger Row, Old Street, his mark registered in 1782,

gilt mvt with pierced & engraved foliate scrolled balance cock,

watch 63.0 dwt (98.0 g). A concise and extensively sourced paper called
"Pearsall and Embree: A Short Business Genealogy," without reference to
author, can be found quickly at Awco.org. Apparently the two
watchmakers were somewhat at different ends of the political spectrum,
Pearsall a Loyalist who signed a petition against the Continental
Congress, Embree rumored to have been a member of the Committee of
Safety under Captain Egbert. By July 1781 wealthy Quaker Pearsall was a
"Loyalist refugee," while Embree apparently kept the shop operating.
Our thanks to the unknown author whom we hope to identify, and to
Awco.org. Wing Collection.

280. APW - Waltham, very rare 23J Riverside Maximus
with winding indicator from lot of 200, 16S, Keystone J Boss 10K GF OF
original RR style SB&B case, SW-LS, WE-TSD, fully capped lever
escapement with Lossier inner terminal HS, adjusted 6 positions, DES on
balance & escape, GJS, gold train, circular fausses-cotes &
twin dividing line NI damascene, s#23100061. The Waltham catalog
specifically lists this run as "1912 WIPS" with codes for patent
regulator and jeweled mainwheel, but the watch is original and
unaltered as LS. The damascene pattern deviates from the classic
Riverside Maximus peacock tailfeather pattern to something closer to
the Premier Maximus concentric pattern, with pressed GJS, only the
center screwed. We have handled s#23100073 once and s#23100163 on three
occasions. Considered a four-star watch in the Complete Guide, here
again in exceptional condition.
